Torture the most widely used Tool to Suppress the Kashmiris.

Torture, used by Indian occupational forces in Kashmir as one of the most widely used instrument to exercise control and inflict physical and mental pain over a population that is fighting for their right of self- determination.

Kashmiris, subjected to many different forms of physical, sexual, and psychological trauma, which can be categorized into torture or other cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment as defined in UNCAT.

Physical beating, beating on the sole of the foot, stripping naked and suspension from the ceiling are the most widely used tortures carried out by occupational forces.

75% of torture victims said that they were beaten. the instrument used were bamboo or wooden sticks, iron rods and leather belts. 21% of victims said that they were dragged slapped on their faces, kicked, punched or glass bottles were broken on their heads.16% victims had been burned using different techniques, most of these victims were burnt using live cigarettes butts, the scars of which they carry still. Acid was used on 2 people. Hot handcuffs, melted candle wax, being forced to sit on the burning stove were the other methods of torture of occupational forces against Kashmiris.

Nazir Ahmed Wani who was arrested by BSF personnel from a shop. He was subsequently placed in custody where he was tortured and inhumanly treated which rendered his left arm disabled.

Nazir Ahmed sheik Tortured By Indian Occupational Forces.

Nazir Ahmed sheik who was picked up and tortured by the Indian army's 14 Dogra Regiment in December 1994. Although he had no militancy or criminal record, Indian army soldiers pushed his left hand into a charcoal oven and rolled his legs over with a steel rod in order to extract a false confession of being a Pakistan trained militant and having a gun to surrender. He lost four fingers and both legs in the torture, and had to sell a piece of ancestral paddy land to buy artificial limbs, 

Abdul Qalander Khatana

In 1992, Khatana was grabbed by the Indian paramilitary Border Security Force from his native village. They accused him of being a “guide” for local militants crossing over the border. the soldiers had beaten out of shape. The soldiers stomped on him, and then one of them just took out a knife and chopped Khatana’s feet off from above his ankles.  As if this wasn’t enough, the soldiers cut off chunks of flesh from his thighs and forced him to eat it. The soldiers, while feeding him his own flesh, were jeering at him: “Bastard, don’t you ever dare again mention Kashmir will be free!”

The death of 29-year-old school principal Rizwan Asad Pandit of Awantipora in police custody DUE TO TORTURE. Initial autopsy reports confirm that Rizwan’s death was due to “excessive bleeding caused by deep wounds on his body” and injuries to his hips, thighs, and abdomen by a sharp object. The police, which initially announced his death in custody, has now, as an afterthought, tried to suggest he had tried to escape.

Abdul Manan Banday was tortured in 1993 and 1995. He was beaten on his soles in 1993. When he was tortured in 1995, he was stripped naked and hung from the ceiling by a nylon rope. this led to the dislocation of his right shoulder. electric current was given to different parts of his body regularly for one week.
