What's behind the Ertugrul craze in Pakistan?

In 2014, a drama was made in Turkey called "Ertugrul Ghazi". The show is set in 13th century and centers around the life of ErtuÄŸrul, the father of Osman I, who was the founder of the Ottoman Empire. This is the historical drama that has caused a stir in the media industry all over the world and is now gaining popularity in Pakistan as well.

There are series in re-running around the world after having crossed the language barriers from Turkish to English to Urdu to even several European languages, named Diliris: Ertugrul in its native language and Resurrection: Ertugrul in English.

Turkey’s national mood can often be measured by the popularity of certain television shows. A few years back, rising self-confidence was symbolized by the blockbuster success of “The Magnificent Century,” based on the life of Sultan Suleiman, who led the Ottoman Empire at the height of its power in the 16th century. The drama “Dirilis Ertugrul” builds the reform in society and the history of the Muslim countries. The show has been well received, particularly in the Muslim world.

Dirilis Ertugrul was a conqueror who fought against the Mongols and the Crusaders, raised his voice against oppression and called for justice, and later Ertugrul's son founded the Ottoman Empire. Dramas like this play a role in inspiring the new generation and keeping their culture alive. The maker of this mammoth show has claimed that the series is an answer to Islamophobia. It presents Islam with the true essence, maintaining its values and sanctity.

We used to watch PTV based dramas on the lives of many invaders and martyrs. Every moment of which we would feel the sacrifices made by them and our hearts would be filled with love for the beloved homeland.

Now our plays are based on traditional mother-in-law relationships (with intrigues and tricks) or dramas like "Mery Pass Tum Ho" that have become mere entertainment. They neither reform society nor represent culture.
The Turkish television series has taken many countries, especially Pakistan recently, by storm.
According to the state-run Pakistan Television (PTV), 133 million people have so far watched the drama series from April 25- May 14. Also, its episodes are trending on YouTube in Pakistan every day.
What is the reason that we are unable to make the dramas like Ertugrul?

Isn't our people interested in such dramas? If it weren't for that, why is there a fuss all over the world - or are our producers not capable of making such plays?

Whatever the reason, such dramas should be made to wake up the sleeping Muslim as well as Pakistani nation at this time - so that our generation can be reformed and positive thinking can spread.
