He said the government had also assured the supply of further stock in case of a need to ensure the protection of doctors from the coronavirus.
Dr. Khawaja said during a visit to the hospital, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Health Services Dr. Zafar Mirza had assured the government’s full support to healthcare workers and professionals, who were working in hospitals for the treatment of COVID-19 patients.
He said Dr. Mirza termed the health professionals, front line heroes, in the fight against corona and that the provision of personal protection equipment kits to them was the government's top priority.
He said a one-month protection kits’ stock had been provided to the PIMS administration for the health professionals. All available resources would be utilized for handling the corona situation.
He said the best medical care was being provided to the corona patients at PIMS, and the role of its doctors in that regard was exemplary.
Dr. Khawaja stressed that prevention was the only way to have a normal and disease-free life. The spread of infection could only be controlled by reducing the rate of contact with other people and the use of surgical masks at all public places, besides covering mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing.
A Ministry of National Health Services official said the government was making all-out efforts to create awareness in public about the corona and protective measures against the disease.
He said several guidelines addressing the communities and sectors concerned had been issued with having full information on different aspects of disease and its prevention.
He said the government had shared protective equipment guidelines to the doctors, paramedical health workers and others, who were connected with the coronavirus patients.
The guidelines had been issued for awareness and implementation for use of protective equipment at the places concerned and at a suitable time by the health professionals and health workers, he added.
The official said the government had also asked the citizens and shopkeepers at various markers to ensure following national guidelines of social distancing to avoid the spread of COVID-19.
He said customers with cough and flu should not be allowed to enter the stores, while ensuring that there was no crowd, allowing people to enter the shops only in small groups.
It was necessary for the shop owners to make sure the customers sanitize their hands before entering the stores and while leaving. It was also mandatory for having thermal guns at the entrance and allow the customers only after checking their temperature.
He asked to ensure the public display of notices promoting hand hygiene and social distancing inside the stores as well as outside the stores, buildings, and plazas.
